My first gun room had a solid wood fire door. Those things are heavy and I shot the portion we cut off at the range with the 22LR and it didn't go through. The frame was hard wood with a steel angle going down the jamb for the latch and lock. The walls were brick (and two were external) and the ceiling was steel lined.

My current has a steel door we made up to fit using sheet steel and angle. The frame is a steel plate on the hinge side and steel angle for the latch and lock as before. The steel plate is 8 gauge and the frame would pull the wall down before the door gave in. The ceiling is now expanded mesh in a wood-mesh-wood sandwich and the walls are concrete blocks (all internal walls).

What mesh did you use out of interest? I know is has to be min 4.5mm with max 50mm*20mm lattice but that covers quite a range of products!
