The Prototype.
I decided to use the original rear sight base and modify the rail to fit.

Re: Scope rails+scope rings questions
It worked out OK I don't think Ill actually use this rail I will probably go with a longer one but this will do for a first attempt to get me away.
By using the original rear base it means I can revert back to the original sight if I want to.
I have prepped 50 lapua cases they will be dedicated to cast bullets shooting in the rifle.
Slugging the bore again is next now I have cleaned the barrel properly. I might post some pics showing sequence of events required to slug a bore we will see.

Re: Scope rails+scope rings questions
Alpha are you intending to drill and tap the front receiver ring to take your rail or are you intending to just cantilever it. If the later I think you will encounter a similar problem to the B-Square mounts no gunsmithing mounts on an Enfield i.e. it will act like a tuning fork and be totally inconsistent.
Re: Scope rails+scope rings questions
I'm intending to drill and tap the front barrel band. If I don't as you say the worry is it won't be rigid enough.
Re: Scope rails+scope rings questions
Barrel band- don't you mean receiver ring? Or have I misunderstood and you are mounting it scout style for an extended eye relief scope.Alpha1 wrote:I'm intending to drill and tap the front barrel band. If I don't as you say the worry is it won't be rigid enough.
Re: Scope rails+scope rings questions
Sorry yes receiver ring. Not barrel band. I am making a start on Mark2 to night I won't drill the receiver until I'm happy I have got the set up right. Once it's drilled and tapped there is no going back.
hmmm what's next.

Re: Scope rails+scope rings questions
A tip, once the barrelled receiver is in the vice of the mill for drilling do not remove it or move the axis until you have tapped the holes, I use a mandrel in the drill chuck that engages into a register in the top of the tap wrench to make sure everything is perfectly aligned.
Re: Scope rails+scope rings questions
That sounds like a good idea thanks for the tip.
Re: Scope rails+scope rings questions
Mark 2 is much better I'm getting there.
