Re: Bullets or heads?
The headstamp is on the base of the brass case. There is no doubt about this. It is yet another indication that to call bullets "heads" is incorrect, otherwise the headstamp would be on the bullet not on the case, and where would we all be?

Though you wouldn't find an infantry of squaddies discussing the intricacies and components of your average canned bang, either... And I'm sure they'd refer to loaded cartridge as a "bullet" rather than a cartridge...Mike357 wrote:Bullets of course.
Do you ever anybody talking about taking a head to the head or a head in the leg? Or infantry coming under a hail of heads? Course you don't.

Or rds of course, I can only think of one sort of head that your average squaddie is interested in.
And of course it's also where a matlot $hits

Re: Bullets or heads?
bullet, but only because you guys all made fun of me when i called them heads
maybe folks should think more about the term for the completed article, and try not to refer to them as bullets as that is about as likely as ppl stopping calling them heads....
I do agree though that sometimes head can be a bit of a confusing term.

I just find it a bit disappointing that so called enthusiasts can't be bothered to learn enough about their chosen sport and equipment to even call common bits by their right name.
When I hear "shooters" talk about buying some caps, gunpowder and heads, are they talking about percussion caps, blackpowder and bullets or something else?
We expect some plonker in the media get it totally wrong and call a shotgun a sniper rifle or talk about safety catches on revolvers but we really have no excuse.
Bullet, Bullet, Bullet.

:) Well spotted. I know there's some odd stuff out there, the Hong Kong/Singapore Webley Police revolver also had a safety catch and there's other oddities like the Dardick etc.snayperskaya wrote:The Webley Fosbery had a safety catch1066 wrote:
