Is the bullet shorter or seated deeper and if the former is to reduce the range it is capable of?

It is the same 124gr bullet as used in the 7.62x39 round and was used by the East Germans as training ammunition as it had a shorter range and reduced recoil. It isn't very accurate but when rattled through a PKM by new recruits that didn't matter apparently. It was actually produced in Hungary for the East Germans.

OK, so supposing that it's all standard tracer and not section 5 lucky bag (as mentioned earlier in the thread) we just need a willing RFD and some punters. How can we confirm that its all legit?

If there is an RFD willing to order I am up for it, also interested in the 7.62x39 tracer that they sell, and I know of others in my club that would be also!

Like Charlotte said though, what happens when some "Surprises" in the batch? Then it becomes a problem for said RFD.

Some years ago my club bought some de-linked, Egyptian (probably), machine gun ammunition. It was awful and mixed in were a very few tracer so battered that the red paint had been chipped off.
It made everyone's day when one streaked down range.
Take care with what you buy.

I would say that as that Czech company has listed it as tracer that's what you'll get........rather than a "lucky bag"
I have just sent an email to one of the UKs biggest surplus ammo suppliers to see if there is a possibility of getting this stuff brought in, once I hear back i'll let you know
will send a few more later, spread the net wider so to speak.

The czech's are pretty good at sending and doing stuff (ala the vz58 mars). So might be fun to watch it go. Say can Tracer ammo deteriorate at all so you don't actually see the "Tracer" anymore?

Lets qualify iffy....obvioulsy section 5 ammo is not ideal, and some of it you wont even get on sec 5 (API etc).
When I say iffy, what I mean is that the colour codes dont run to any real standard. You would expect them to and they usually do, but not always.
I have tracer in my collection with red, green and mauve tips. I also have AP with black and green (identical to the 54R shown above but 7.92), the green is Italian.
So my point is, if in doubt, chuck it out (or at me

).
I doubt tracer would deteriorate to a point where it would burn but not visibly, I am not a chemist so I cant say it wont, but my experience is that the stuff can take a real beating with a blow lamp to get it going (and that was good, clean 80s 762x51 RG) so I would suggest that the compound may be fine, but the initiator may not be.
