I tried to get an OIL from the department and was told I didn't need one for European imports and that they wouldn't give me one on a just in case basis. I have been taking in firearms from Europe with no problems.

Was it the people in Stockton you spoke to?, I had the same reply when I was looking at a rifle a couple of years ago.

Thanks all. I have a dealer in Finland who already has an export licence however once I've paid Finnair costs, storage costs at the airport plus the RFDs fees I might as well have flown out myself. It's for a couple or three military bolt actions.

Import licence enquiries should be addressed to the Import Licensing Branch Enquiry Point (. E) IMLB01 and I have the contact details if anyone is genuinely interested.

When I bought a rifle in Germany, my local licensing issued me with a "Schedule 7 authority" for the EU authorities. It was 12 years ago of so details are sketchy....
Rifle turned up at my door..... Now that's another story!
