Re: Tunnel Section 5

The Sec of State has made a concession here to allow 2no. individuals access to section 5 firearms due to their individual levels of current ability and their membership of an elite sports team.

Therefore whilst this doesn't set any legal precedent or change any laws I would hope that if another mainland UK pistol shooter could demonstrate to the Sec of State they were equally committed and performing at a similar level in their chosen dicipline i.e. qualified for the IPSC European and World IPSC shoots they too could apply for and be granted a Sec 5 authority?

If you can get the Sec of State to agree to that in principle I imagine it would then come down to having the financial means with which to store and shoot the authority if given (this is where the Olympians have the advantage because of their funding). There is then the cost of transporting the Sec 5 from your UK range to an overseas comp (not like there'd be any in the UK) and thats not cheap.

Therefore any other pistol shooter who doesn't have the resources of a national body such as GB shooting behind them will need to be very wealthy to make having a Sec 5 authority worth while and if you had that sort of money you'd just travel to shoot anyway without bothering with all the unneccessary Sec 5 hassle & expenditure.

Good luck to Geike et al but I'm not going to celebrate such a small concession to such a narrow section of our sport.
