In the pic above the top one is a SVDS with wooden handguards, next is an AKM followed by an AK-104 with wood furniture and lastly an AK-74u in 5.45x39 (sadly its a deac)

Dude, I know one fella who has just about every Russian/Soviet firearm ever made, in fact last time I saw him he had three Draganov rifles with him (un-neutered) and every AK variant he has is full auto, they can still be had over here and I don't mean Chinese or Romaks either.

For starters the majority of yanks wouldn't let the government get away with the $h!t the UK lot get away with. Yanks prefer acting on gun issues rather than whining about it on forums. But hey mate if it floats your boat then crack on.

Personally if it were me and neutered AR or AK's was all I could own then I just wouldn't bother. Lets face it what you have there is nothing more than a dressed up bolt action rifle.

The SVDS has never been imported into the States and US shooters cannot buy one.....

a quick check of gunbroker shows yanks bidding 5 grand (dollars) for SVD's (PSL / vepr isn't an SVD) - 5 grand on a rifle that in Europe is trading at 900 euros (one on egun.de at that price right now)....that tells me that yanks are paying with their nuts to get an SVD.

If we all didn't bother with neutured guns - then "they" have won, besides, it's what's available, there's a demand for it, we don't enjoy the popularity of shooting sports that the US does, we don't have the manufacturing base that the US has so we're stuck with it, so of course the yanks can get all het up every two seconds and act to prevent xyz gun control they don't like - we can't as you well know as there just isn't the support - it sucks, but it's a fact of life.

Can't speak for the others on here but I'm aware that full auto firearms are legal over there provided that it's:

one of the 186 thousand (which if IIRC includes RDIAS and Lightning links also) that were on the register pre-closure, ie it's transferrable AND
you'd paid the 200 dollar tax OR
you have an FFL and paid the class 3 tax stamp AND
it's a dealer sample

no doubt there's a few more edge cases but this is off the top of my head and after my bed time......

Despite what you think or have been told there are more than a fair few Russian SVD's over here, all un-neutered. As I said in my last post, fella at the club has three of the things.

So by that logic perhaps we shouldn't bother and take up golf or knitting or something then???

If all I can own is a straight pull Dragunov or AK etc then I will as my interest in Russian firearms extends beyond how fast they can fire.
