I remember a book from my childhood called The Machinegunners about a gang of kids that recover a machine gun from a downed German Bomber and use it to shoot down another.

They clearly don't make kids like they used to.
During the war there was a facility in the home counties nicknamed Winston Churchill's Playground, where they experimented with weapons.

A local lad got under the fence one day, found a rocket launcher and fired it off. He received a caution for his contribution to the war effort, but that didn't deter him because he did it again.

They certainly don't make kids like they used to.

Hang on.... Playing with the gun before mum took it off him. Most of these appear to be section 5. Surely he was in violation of the firearms act. Or has common sense prevailed?

Thanks for reminding me of that book. I loved it as a kid. It's always been a fancy of mine to dig out a nice cosy dugout somewhere and reading that as a little b****** just made my eyes light up.

Hell, if I was 14 and found this stash of rusted iron on my own, well, I'm sure I would do the responsible thing and call it in to the police, if you understand where I was coming from. O:-)

In the Machinegunners wasn't it a geordie lad called Chas Mcgill?, I seem to remember it as a kids TV show as well.If I remember right didn't they find a German airman as well?.
