After all this talk of electronic muffs I headed off to the range Saturday as RCO, stuck them on and pressed the on button and..... nothing! nada, not a sausage, the battery was dead after who knows how long so just got on with things and tried to be even more vigilant as I would not be able to hear requests and comments from shooters.
At the break I unscrewed the battery cover, inspected the single AAA which looked OK, stuck it back in and as luck would have it they started working and performed perfectly for the remainder of the day. They now have a new battery in ready for the next couple of years. It may be worth carrying a spare battery if you shoot on a weekly or more basis as you tend to get used to the ability to hear things at the firing point after a while.
