Re: LANTEC
Where are you going to mount you handle on the carrier without machining out the upper? If you drill and tap the bolt carrier at the furthest point forward and put a handle on it you CANT pull it back far enough to reload the rifle or lock the bolt back using the upper you have.Jackmanuk wrote:so what your saying is rather than getting a bolt with a finger bar like and ak or simply drilling and tapping the original bolt for a handle . you would rather spend alot more money on a new upper and have to rebuild the rifle
If you think you got a deal on that rifle then think again you just paid way over the odds for a non side charging gun.
Our basic TCR Raven starts at £1560, that's with a 14.5'' barrel and 9'' freefloat handguard. Its about £50 extra for a 12'' handguard and the same approx to go to a 16.75'' barrel. You get a lot of gun for that money. I could just as easily make one without a side charger for a little less.
I dont know where people get their info from but it seems its mostly wrong.
Hera Arms dont make their own billet upper or lowers (they are NOT manufactured in Germany) and the design (that was done by a Brazilian) is licensed by a number of companies that include LANTAC, Styer and Hera as well as some US companies also. I repeat Hera's Uppers and Lowers are NOT made in Germany and NOT made by them either.
We have used this design for our original lowers and semi auto uppers in the past (and may in the future). BUT have currently moved over to OUR OWN DESIGN that is made in the UK.
Our new lowers feature wire EDM magwells (Hera's do not, they are drilled) as well as a load of other changes.

Our current upper is based on the Mega arms side charger with a few changes, it has a larger bolt catch cut out so a BAD lever can be fitted. After a batch of Mega Arms uppers were all out of spec I decided to manufacture our version over here and the quality has been much better ever since.
We have a new billet upper coming out very soon too. Both Semi Auto and Straight PUll
All machined from certificated 7075T6 alloy and milspec anodised. DESIGNED AND MADE IN THE UK.
Our side charging system is designed by us and manufactured in the UK, everyone else buys theirs form 3rd Eye (SGC excluded).
We have a CNC lathe for barrel profiling with a manual tailstock for chambering, we use blanks from Border and ESS.
Out TCR barrels shoot very well and are ESS steel. Our custom barrels are Border, profiled and chambered in house.

Re: LANTEC
Just a quick question - the "warning, refer to operators manual" inscription you use.........
Was that a Lantac decision or driven by an outside body such as insurance or health and safety ?

Re: LANTEC
I've no wish to be awkward or start an argument with you but why is it £240 extra for a standard TCR to be chambered in 300aac if you're using barrel blanks and chambering in-house?AR15 wrote:We have a CNC lathe for barrel profiling with a manual tailstock for chambering, we use blanks from Border and ESS.

Had the price been the same or even slightly higher than the .223 TCR I would have placed an order, £240 seems a lot of extra money for swapping a barrel?.
There's room for all Gods creatures, next to the mash and gravy :)
Re: LANTEC
Because we cannot buy in a pre made barrel in that caliber (keeping cost down). Therefore a blank has to be used, profiled, chambered, threaded both ends, barrel extension fitted, headspaced index pin and then either Cerakoted or Phosphated.
Good luck finding a gunsmith who will make you a complete barrel for £240.00
Border want £81.40 just to thread the muzzle.

Re: LANTEC
Thank you for letting me know, no ulterior motive for me asking BTW just I'd budgeted for the £1560 and the extra £240 came as a bit of a surprise. Looks like I'll have to start saving again then

Got to say that I'm very tempted by the photos, what kind of money is in the spec in the photos?

Re: LANTEC
No personally I'd of bought the side charging upper in the first place. What you have is a gas gun with out the gas and what are you keeping it more original to cause it's not an m16 nor is it an m4. I'm glad your happy with it but the question was asked and i have given an answer. Fact t bar cockers just aren't popular anymoreJackmanuk wrote:so what your saying is rather than getting a bolt with a finger bar like and ak or simply drilling and tapping the original bolt for a handle . you would rather spend alot more money on a new upper and have to rebuild the rifle
Re: LANTEC
That gun was £2100 excluding the Back up sights and scope. The Magpul UBR is about the most expensive stock that they make btw..
