Do they take reenacting that seriously that someone can't embellish their position within the reenactment? They've never struck me as historically correct.

I have no time whatsoever for walts, I've encountered a couple in my time, one at a English Civil War re-enactment, a so say member of 2Para who had done a years training with the Foreign Legion, he didn't ring true from the beginning, but he began to hang around with the group, when post display drinking ensued challenges were issued, namely pushup challenges, I was fit back then, but by no means P Coy level of fitness, I trounced him, he left promptly after that.

The last one was the most typical, the pub walt in Canterbury, he discovered that he was in the presence of War Studies students and started regaling us of tales of one man rampages in Afghanistan, that he was offered the VC but turned it down etc... He promptly left when he discovered one of our number was a Gurkha, still with 1RGR who was an Afghanistan veteran.

I encountered an odd one a while ago, he came across as a very genuine bloke, but claimed to be a serving copper in counter terrorism (or some such). Various other stories came out , relating to the plod etc. Anyway about six months later he turns up on the news

Usually an airsoft mong in his/her own time spending hours in a bedroom on a playstation/x-box dressed infull webbing etc. Also a sad individual with General Jumbo syndrome who believes they are an all mighty commander of a set of plastic model soldiers turning up at the local games workshop in full uniform.

The thing is amongst our Airsoft brethren those people that participate in the sport who are x-box/Playstation types are regarded as Walts. They hate them, within Airsoft they are called CoD (Call of Duty) Fanboys/Walts, generally they will be new to airsoft have some cheap kit that looks Tacticool and no real ability. To be associated with online gaming within Airsoft circles is an insult.

Also I have a degree of sympathy for those who participate in Airsoft, it is healthy exercise out in the open, the kit when you get into it is eye watering expensive and with the RIF restrictions the purchase and ownership of realistic looking airsoft guns are onerous.

With realistic RIF airsoft guns you must be a member of an airsoft club and you must attend at least once in a six week period or you have to give them up. No two month breaks or anything, active participation and the clubs have to send in their attendance lists. There are also some really ludicrous restrictions, want an airsoft M1911 pistol? Well if it is painted in Orange anybody can buy it off a market stall (Children excluded), if you want it with a black metal frame then it is a RIF and you must be a member of an airsoft club with the above restrictions. BUT if you want an M1911 air pistol that is more powerful then the equivalent airsoft variant anybody can buy and own one with no restrictions beyond maximum power.

I can think of worse things to do on a Saturday then run around playing soldiers and the restrictions they put up with are crazy to say the least. It is also a way into small bore and fall bore shooting for some so I would be careful with the criticisms.

On a side note once the bullet leaves the barrel it behaves no different regardless if the rifle is military looking or not. I like owning military style rifles but haven't participated in competition (yet) that is my own choice, personally I could never own one of those hideous paint job chromed FT/R jobs...each to their own:
