Band D in my Borough is £216.92 which translates to ~£260 for band E and £305 for a band F property bands E and F cover medium size 3 bedroom semi-detached houses.

It certainly is ...

Council Tax:

Band E £1730
Band F £2045

and for some of my close neighbours it goes up to £2832

Aye, you're dead right! But, it's really not even mildly amusing these days, never mind funny...

Unfortunately my son seems to have inherited his father's sense of service and duty and is making noises at joining up. I'm trying as delicately as possible, to steer him away from such things....!

Sim G, yeah I hear you mate, much the same where I was as well that's why I retired. You might be wasting your time with your lad, mine made the same noises but went on to become a bio-chemist. Five or six years of doing that he became a Special and from there went full time, he now serves with Cambridgeshire Constabulary. You can only point them in the right direction mate but ultimately the choice is theirs.

From these unscientific measures, it would seem the average is about £150 for the police precept.

Now, ~£150 per head + £50 FAC/SGC application fee, plus £26 for a variation, of which I reckon everyone has a minimum of one during each certificate's lifespan... I say each of us FAC/SGC holders has contributed £226 to police coffers straightaway. I quite like how that stacks up against ACPO's estimate of £200 in overheads per certificate holder - suggests they owe us a rebate, if anything!

Surely as a certificate lasts for 5 years and the ACPO claim is that a certificate costs around £200 (every 5 years) the total each individual pays is £150*5+50 = £800 which make teh numbers even more in our favour.

And if you live in London typically £1300 to £1600 !
