McMurdo resigned weeks after the shootings. I can't find any trace of him since.

McMurdo was in Hamilton's corner on a couple of occasions. I remember watching the news during the Cullen Inquiry and hearing that during McMurdo's evidence, he was slated by Cullen. McMurdo then stood on the steps outside and when confronted by the media said something along the lines of, "All handguns should be banned". He then retired the following day. I also seem to recall that it is Central Scotland Police's dealings with Hamilton were classified.

Hamilton no doubt did the murdering, but to my mind, Central Scotland Police's failings on the whole and McMurdo specifically allowed him the means whith which to carry out his atrocity.

I seem to recall that McMurdo retired to Cyprus directly after the atrocity, I also recall hearing that there was no extradition then with Cyprus but don't know the validity of either claim.

MM

20/30 etc files can be requested for case review if new evidence comes to light or miscarrage of justice is suspected and case needs to be reopened.
I think this is the route they are trying to use to open profumo files that are still locked. We all know the scottish police screwed up and did not perform their duties correctly why we will never know.

On the bright side if scotland leave the union the incident then happened in a forigen country so we can claim it would not happen in ours and have pistols back.

Does anyone have any 'gun crime stats' for Northern Ireland, given that pistols / handguns are still legal there? If handguns can "work out OK" in NI, they can work out anywhere in the UK...
