for transport I take the hammer group out of my AUG, and the bolts out of my other rifles, takes about the same time for all, the .22lr semi stays in one piece as its a certifiable PITA to strip clapclap the rifles are stored at home with/without bolts depending on whether or not I can be bothered to put them back in, if not they live in the ammo safe.Dangermouse wrote:Another factor is, as your collection grows and you get a semi .22lr, semi shotgun etc are you still going to go to the hassle of taking the guns apart to remove the bolts? Easy enough on a bolt action rifle but time consuming on many other platforms.
Personaly I do not,

Charlotte the flyer wrote:I keep my bolt action bolts in the ammunition store but only because it gives you more space in the gun cab. The first time that you scratch a gun you'll remove them too! Just keep the bolts right next to the calibre of ammunition to which it relates, that way when you get ammo you'll see the bolt.

This is why I have invested in gun socks so they don't get scratched. I personally keep them in the guns, mainly because I have no room in the top lock boxes to store them.
Re: Security question
Bolts in the ammo safe and yellow flags in the rifles so when i get them out it's obvious I need to also get the bolts.

Re: Security question
I know ammunition is to be stored separately from rifles, but if one had two safes, could you keep the ammunition for any gun in the "other" safe, so that accessing a safe would never give you immediate access to both rifle and its ammunition?
Careful now/that sort of thing

Re: Security question
That's what I do. And I have a couple of old pistol safes for the common stuff like 22lr., with rifles of that cartridge size appearing in most if not all safes.shugie wrote:I know ammunition is to be stored separately from rifles, but if one had two safes, could you keep the ammunition for any gun in the "other" safe, so that accessing a safe would never give you immediate access to both rifle and its ammunition?
Arming the Country, one gun at a time.
