Weather has been great up here so shooting has been taking place, I have been working on 303 loads for a Martini Enfield.
I am using the NOE 316299 boolits sized to .314", BHN 12 from range scrap and roofing lead with a smidgen of tin, gaschecked with 2500 lube. The barrel on this Martini is tight with groove slugging out at a hair under .312". Throat is good to as I can seat the boolit into the lands with an oal of 3.0745". Although a bore rider this boolit is too large to enter this tight bore.
Starting loads tested to day were:
16 gns Alliant 2400
17 gns Ramshot Enforcer
20 gns Vihtavuori N120
12 gns Alliant unique
Case were 1 x fired HXP 69 F/L resized and trimmed to 2.212", CCI LR primers.
The first three powders were giving velocities of just over 1600 fps and the Unique was giving just over 1400 fps.
100 yrd 10 shot groups were just under 3 inches for the 2400 and Unique, 4 inches for the Enforcer and 4 1/2 inches for the N120 all groups showed some vertical stringing with the 2400, Enforcer and N120 having group width size of 2 inches. This vertical stringing was a function of the open military sights and some position sensitivity with Enforcer and N120 both of which will do better with increased loads.
All loads fire formed the case nicely for future neck sizing.
Tomorrow its 7.62 NATO in a Ishapore 2A1 same loads under an Eagan style 175 gn Loverin.
