But in reality we don't get a "service", firearms licensing is for the protection of the public, like any other policing for public safety it should be paid for by the public it's there to protect.

I have made the same comment many times before.

If they charge us for licences then they should charge drivers for attending accidents, householders who ask for security information, burglary victims, lost property, &c &c &c. We pay a precept for Police Services and tat should cover ALL of them.
