I've never seen someone take the back off a gun with pliers before to load it...

He was doing it wrong then...

It's a simple rotary breech, just rotate it a quarter turn, let the old cartridge fall out, pop in a new one, rotate a quarter turn the other way, then aim and pull the trigger.

No pliers required...
He did seem to be having a little trouble with it - Does it cock when loading or unloading?...and would it normally just be done by hand?

Yes, eventually.

Initially Mr Plod was going to give it to us as a rifle as:

1. It has a rifle length barrel
2. It fires a rifle cartridge

but then he decided it looked like a pistol and so, even though it doesn't have a coathanger welded to it, he decided it was a LBP

Indeed they are, shot a 7.62 single shot (Thompson?) back in the early 80s :shakeshout:

What I'd ideally like is one in 300 Blackout, superb sub-sonic round for indoor use and can be loaded up with a decent 30cal jacketed target bullet at 2000-2400fps+ to make 100m and greater shooting very interesting! :good:

Indeed so: all we lack is equipment and skill...

Perhaps we have a glowing career in politics ahead of us.

The was a second hand RCBS Rock chucker press on here only a week ago...

...and if I can do it, you can...

...not trying to twist your arm (much), but with your interests in metallurgy and other technical stuff I'm sure you'd love it...
