Just curious mate but how do you feel you are being "held to ransom by the Yanks"? I've seen that written a few times on here and always wondered how folks come to that conclusion.

Blu
From a general point of view, poor/unreliable supply and in some cases silly prices Blu.

And then not necessarily for products that are head and shoulders (if at all) above the competition.

Still, folk can either put up with it or try and find an alternative.

Maggot, but surely the unreliable supply isn't down to the manufacturers but to the people who order them into the UK. As for the silly prices, well yeah we here in the US have seen a sharp increase in prices but then that's down to the Chinese buying up all the metals that they can and driving the prices up. Also on top of that there is the shipping/freight costs to the UK, then the taxes that are imposed on them by the government and the mark up that dealers over there put on the prices as well. Hardly the fault of the Yanks mate. Are they going to be any cheaper coming from say Australia?

Hell I look at the prices you folks pay for a hundred bullets and shudder.

Blu,

Out of interest how much would you guys have to pay for something like 155gn Berger target bullets?

Stuck, just checked the place where I buy my bullets and for .308 (you didn't state a calibre) and converting it to UK sterling, 23 quid with State tax on top.

Doh!

Sorry Blu, I was referring to .308.

That's about half the price I'm paying over here wtfwtf

Thanks for the information.

Stuck, like I said above mate, freight costs and taxes, mark ups and the markets, well as you can see from the prices you pay and what I pay, hardly the fault of the Yanks.

Blu,

I wasn't blaming you "yanks" mate, was just interested in a comparative cost.

Stuck, nah that wasn't aimed at anyone, just kinda trying to set the record straight on something that's been written a couple of times now and in the past.

P.S. I'm only a plastic Yank mate, I'm a born and bred Edinburgh boy.

I see your point Blu but such a markup?

I have also been told that deliveries are either very late or incomplete.

I get that, because of the panic over supplies, folks in the states are stocking up, but the knock on effect is that the supply and demand culture means that the prices are getting rammed up. Value now not being what they cost, but what they are worth to the shooter. Fine in an action house but not in a sport.

So yes, I guess you are right, it is a bit of both.

On the other hand, if it is a market that the yanks cannot supply, then its as good an incentive as ever for British shooters to say enough is enough and start looking elswhere and developing loads accordingly.

I know of some suppliers who will not sell Berger because the prices asked are out of proportion. Other shave fallen foul by trying to keep the costs down.

Business is business though I guess.

Anyway, off piste but a fair point, enjoy your shooting :good:

Dan, I got this back from a colleague of David Gifford

"Hi Chris

I have used Dave's projectiles in a 14 twist barrel and they were stable at both 500m and 1000yds distances where I shot them. I was running them at around 3200fps with my cartridge so not 100% certain how you would go with the slower speed of the 308.

Hope this helps.

Regards Alan Nielsen"

What I would worry about with your rifle is will it take a decent .308 load, and is it tight bore?

That said, you can try some, things dont always go as expected do they?
