Because most 62g is in 5.56 Military ammunition(SS109) and there is a difference between 5.56 and .223Rem. Go look it up.SevenSixTwo wrote:...begs the question then; why is 62gr so unpopular in the UK?
If you are reloading most people seem to use either a 69gr or 77gr bullet (as long as the twist is fast enough), or 52/55gr with slower twists.

I'm well aware of the differences. Thing is; 62gr is widely available in .223 in the US - as are 62gr heads. I've only seen both on one site here in the UK (ITL) but they don't appear to do online ordering. I can't see a reason why it's popular over there but not here.

Couple of years back I would never have suggested what I'm about to suggest purely because at the time their quality control was rubbish but these days and with a competitive market they seem to have gotten their act together.
So in saying that WOLF does a 62grn boxer primed, don't know what supplies of WOLF are like over there but if you're not as you say going to be using them for competition they might be worth a look.

Have also now nabbed a significant quanitity of GGG in 5.56 and 7.62! At last.
I've heard the primers are hard to punch out on them - any advice?

Just buy some Lapau brass of ovenpaa and reload it. Simple. Why complicate things.

I have the same issue - my VZ loves 62 grn.
As noted, the NRA has GGG back in stock which I clocked yesterday but it may also be worth asking at Fultons as I've recently got Geco Target 62 grn from them.
I've reloaded the GGG 7.62 and as mentioned I just got a countersink bit and took the crimp out with that. worked perfectly.
