I have the sight stripped and cleaned , alot of years of crud and hardened oil cleaned out and has revealed the 1-6 digits on the vert adjustment are in red .I found a document in foreign that seemed to indicate that there were different colours for different bullets/loads but it was a photo so couldn't use google translate ,I will spend some time today searching online if swmbo permits ( I may be too tired to shop today) ;¬)) :goodjob:

I have the info on what colour disc is used per the type of ammunition used....somewhere!!

I can source spare discs if your ammo is doing a different speed.

It'll not be oil, it'll be the VappenFett - I have a few tins of it. Gungrease.

So, load development is the order of the day to properly use all the Soderin's features (or any of the diopters, for that matter). That is my next task, once I'm comfortable with all my diopters....
I just checked my rifles and one has the range ring graduations in yellow and the other where they are visable are white, but both only have graduations from 1 up to 6, so I'm not sure I'm following what your saying about about the different color elevation rings.
The velocity of a given load of ammo will give you a specific trajectory . All the Soderin dials are marked 100 meters to 600 meters , but each is calibrated for a differant load . Meaning that the markings are spaced differantly on each dial according to the amount of bullet drop at each distance ( 100 through 600 ) . There are 4 colored dials : white , yellow , red & green . Anders has posted info on 2 of them in the past . Perhaps Arilar , Nisse , Pettson or Anders has info on the other two ?

white = 6.5x55 143 grain " Silver Match " , 800 m/s

yellow = 6.5x55 139 grain M-41 military ammo , 790 m/s

red = 6.5x55 139 grain " Falt torped " , 830 m/s

green = 6.5x55 139 grain spitzer boatail , 850 m/s

I don't know what a Falt torped is but but it looks like I'm shooting the 139gr boatail ?


I will take my chrono to the range next weekend and see what velocity I'm getting .
