Well I just got back from the range and it was a tad chilly but worth it none the less. I found the sweet load for the new Thompson Venture 25-06 I bought and although I am waiting on a custom stock being made for the 6.5 Swede barreled action that I bought earlier in the year, I went ahead and bought a cheapo semi inleted stock from Boyds gun stocks. After inletting it and getting it to fit the Swede I tarted it up with some Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil stock finish and it looks not half bad.
The Swede shoots pretty decent but I am still load developing for it which is half the fun as well. All in all a good morning/afternoon on the range.

Don't know about that Badger but there sure is plenty of snow to go around this year and still more to come. This time last year we were in T-shirts

Now that's a rifle I want to know about. They're starting to appear here but there's a lack of info. Which is the better rifle, the Icon or the Venture and what would you judge its main competition - remember 700, tikka t3, Sako 85? What's the build quality and accuracy like?
Cheers

Scotsgun. I've never owned and Icon but from what I have read on the other forums I'm a member of, the Venture is every bit as good and out of the box it shoots sub MOA. Today shooting at 200yds when I found the sweet load I could have covered the five shot hole with a dime. It has an adjustable trigger which is very easy to get at, one doesn't need to remove the stock to get at the trigger, the trigger is adjustable via a hex screw on the top of the rifle. The barrel is 5R rifling and the bolt is as smooth as silk. Nothing wrong with the build quality either, it's rugged and it's well made and nice and tight. To be honest the rifle is a pleasure to shoot.
I have to say for the price, this is a pretty sweet rifle. Below is a link with more info and a picture of the rifle I bought though they do come in camo as well.

Spent all of Sunday out on Century shooting various distances. 0 degrees ambient temperature, probably about -3 with wind chill taken into account, wind was about 5-6 minutes ... dunno what that is in speed terms but it was pretty chilly. And I had to take off 3 of my 4 layers to get my shooting jacket on!
Bleddy Northern weaklings, staying indoors as soon as the mercury drops!

Hey gaz i think it was running at 12-15mph & was nearer -5-8C wind chill! my hands hurt all day today & i sat in the office in suit & overcoat all day!
Hats off to all those who shot in that & scored well in those conditions - will pack a sleeping bag in my shooting kit for next year........ reportedly they have moved the match to May!
Well done coaching me to a 49.3 in that!

Spent the whole weekend doing a UKPSA Practical shotgun safety course in Dorset, this time last year it was around 18-20'c, this weekend it was in the minus with some nasty windchill factor thrown in, good weekend though with a competition pass achieved.
