Re: How big is your kit bag??
For me it is:
A standard L96 issue drag bag holding:
Rifle, bolt and magazine, I also have laminated drop tables attached to the rifle.
Spare magazine
Ammunition for the competition/shoot only plus 5 spare rounds. I keep mine in boxes of 2+20
Lightweight waterproof over trousers
Sordins
Baseball cap or beanie dependant on weather
Shooting glasses
Beer towel
Medium hand towel
Fold up shooting mat
Note Case which is carried in a pocket holding plot sheets, pencil plus spare, Allen keys, Broken case extractor, spare drops tables
Anything else stops in the car.

Very organised David. Wish I could say the same but I'll try my best to trim down what I need to take.

Re: How big is your kit bag??
Martin,
For S Class things are even lighter.
Rifle in slip with bolt and magazine in the pocket
Sordins
Hat in jacket pocket along with shooting glasses and Ammunition for the competition in 2+20 slip top box.
Note Case holding plot sheets, pencil plus spare, Allen keys and drop tables etc.
I wear a GoreTex jacket which is makes a fine shooting mat of the ground is damp.
That is about as light as travel other than when I am out with strange old wooden rifles.
I fine tune my drops on the day using BulletFlight on my iFone, I do this in the car and then write the starting elevation on each plot sheet so I know exactly where I need to be for 400/500/600 yards. I have to make a note of these drops as it is a 6,5-284 with an MOA 'scope and although I know my drops off by heart in Mils for the AI 7,62x51 I can never remember the MOA stuff on the S&L

a) a very long rifle for use in only the prone position
b) max mag scope

d) stupidly heavy & expensive front rest that really does the hard work
e) rear bag / rest so that rifles actually supports itself whilst i have a cup of tea
f) floppy hat or colourful bobble hat in winter
g) a jumper my mum knitted me
h) fingerless gloves (usually not matching)
i) spare pair of glasses in case i lose my main pair which happens at my age
j) tuna sandwiches
k) pickles
l) thermos of tea & some custard creams
m) extra sandwiches the wife doesn't know about
n) massive spotting scope for someone else to use
o) tripod for said spotting scope
p) two ground mats in case it gets a little damp
q) score book, plastic folder, extra sharp pencils and must have erasers on the top
r) pipe and tobacco
s) ear defenders or more commonly known as hearing aid
t) cheap anorak (red or blue is a must. Anything camo/green is frowned upon)
u) a blanket in case it gets a bit chilly out as it sometimes does in June
v) deck chairs...as many as you can get in the car
w) a contemptuous view of anything not F Class
x) all this is packed into a Skoda estate along with a trolley to get it to the firing point

Re: How big is your kit bag??
TJC - that is a classic however you forgot to mention the rear bag needs to be excessively heavy and filled with heavy sand only one step removed from heavy water in cost. Oh and the small wheels on the trolley to allow it to precariously bounce from pot hole to pot hole as you steer your way down to the 800 firing point on Stickeldown.
Re: How big is your kit bag??
what about one of those tr type boxes that open up to reveal all sorts of unnessacery and useless stuff that seems essential , you know the type that a muzzle braked 300rum fills with leaves and sometimes knocks over when fired by a green clad urchin without so much as a beard !TJC wrote:This is what is taken to the range for for F Class

Re: How big is your kit bag??
That reminds me, is Dr Westlake still Yomping across the fields with a sniper drag bag, SAS type jacket and odd looking shorts as a short cut to BR in the mornings?
