Good God No....nobody actually reads it.

SUN Stupid Numpty scum.

What a load of drivel. Totally inaccurate but when you write for a readership with a mental capacity and rewading ability of a cretin it doesn't have to be.

What it DOES show is that (a) what happens across the pond DOES matter here DESPITE what the ostriches may think and (B) the screaming need for the media to be regulated till their eyes water. If they cannot print the TRUTH then they have no righ to print anything, let alone give an opinion that the great unwashed will lap up before turning to the fottie and tits page.

Once upon a time the Sun and such like would have been made by Jeyes or Izal and hung in the outhouse.

most of the gun pictured is furniture and toys-no doubt to inspire fear and dread in the reader...a walnut stock bolt action.22 with just a scope is not as frightening to readers
It will be once it's called a sniper rifle...you relly need to keep up with their spurious antics to demonise ALL guns and those that have them. These papers appeal to the uneducated mooching classes who see your ability to think for yourself and afford anything you acquired through hard work as a crime.

Once again, time the press was regulated till their nuts popped. Abject LIES can never be tolerated in the press or media but hey, they are in the pay of the government so stand by for a "second look" by the powers that be. Scum papers like this are above the law and can do what they want to whoever they want. There is NO way of fighting back unless you have deep pockets and friends in high places.

I agree that BASC, NRA et all should be on this BIG time.

Maybe we should copy the yanks and buy as many guns and as much ammo as possible......??.

Anyone can complain to the PCC: http://www.pcc.org.uk/complaints/makingacomplaint.html

Speaking with the day job hat on, go for it. The Sun is covered by the PCC, and I encourage you to write and complain.

Taking the work hat off ... complaining to the PCC won't do much, and it'll have zero effect with the Sun's investigations department because, being one of the biggest newspapers in the UK, they're a law unto themselves. But do it anyway, as it might have an effect with someone, somewhere.

I'll email matey boy at lunch and copy the text onto this thread.
I recognise we can complain but I would like to see the BASC and NRA join forces to undertake this on behalf of all sporting shooters. We have shooting bodies that we are members of and they should represent our interests.

Am I being unreasonable to expect them to stand up to idiotic articles like this ??? BTW an AR wasn't even used in the CT shootings !

I doubt BASC will react. They might do though if a journalist called a pheasant a peacock.

Looking at Arundel Militaria's website (http://www.deactivated-guns.co.uk/) and the article together, it's pretty obvious that all the Sun bloke's done is list the "popular products" section in his article, and probably fired off an email afterwards saying "I'm running this story, either with or without a quote from you, say something or forever hold your peace."

Thing is, the article's not factually inaccurate either. He clearly has little knowledge of shooting and all he's done is copied the marketing spiel on the rifles he mentions by name.

Anyway, I sent him this:
Dear Neil

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/ne ... he-UK.html

With reference to the above article, published under your byline earlier today on Sun Online. I’d like to point out that the Gun Control Network, despite the name, has just four members, two of whom are ex-Labour MP Bob Marshall-Andrews and his wife Gill, the founder. The other two members choose to remain anonymous, despite having been in the operation since around 1997.

Doubtless the subs went over the article, but Gill Marshall-Andrews’ statement “Guns leak all the time from legal status to illegal status” is simply not true. She’s entitled to hold that opinion if she likes, but claiming it as a fact is wrong. Get hold of Arundel Militaria again – if he’ll speak to you after this – and ask him how much paperwork he has to fill in, including recording the buyer’s name, address, licence details, and informing the police of the sale, to sell one of these rifles. They’re tracked and recorded as long as they exist.

Of course, you know all this already, and I know you know it’s a slanted article riding on the back of the US massacre fears. Why not ring up the British Association for Shooting and Conservation’s press office and get a few quotes off them on how people safely and legally enjoy shooting for your next article? They’re not all Adam Lanzas in the making.

You might also want to ask the UK National Rifle Association if you can pop down to the ranges at Bisley and try out target shooting – which, by the way, is one of the approved “good reasons” for getting a firearm certificate. You missed that one out.

Regards,
Gaz

Must have posted the thread at the same time because yours wasn't there when I pressed submit.

Moderator, please feel free to delete this one. Can the replies on this one be easily transferred to 762's thread?
