This information was posted on another forum I visit in answer to your question.

What is meant by 'right type of bullet'? I have been using standard 140ish grain 6.5mm bullets with 30-31 grains of IMR 3031 powder in my Type 38 long rifle and carbine. The bore of the long rifle is not so good so difficult to judge if accuracy is down to the load or the bore. 6.5mm Japanese cases are available from Henry Krank in Pudsey. I have some of those I use in my Type 44 carbine but I converted some .243 Win brass to 6.5 Japanese to use in the Type 38 rifle and carbine using a sizing die I got from Riceone.

Thanks Alpha. By right I mean the correct bullet for the Arisakas throat and bore. If you just seat some random bt bullet that fits the bore the OAL will come up very very short and the long tapered throat means that pressure will be venting from the case mouth before the bullet has even engaged the bore properly. I would love to know what his 'standard' 6.5 bullets are because they could be the answer.

I have taken on board all the cast bullet suggestions and will probably get a suitable mould and have a friend who knows about casting to make some for me. Dromia if you thought I was going to punish an arisaka with FMJ perhaps I shouldn't mention the all matching unissued and unshot No4. I think I had better feed it cast too now to avoid lynching.

Many thanks for your responses.
