SGC and Bradley Arms rifles both perform well, I have not see any of LanTac's offerings but the specs appear to be good and his customer feedback also appears to be spot on. Best advice is to spec the rifle for the job you want it to do and not what the supplier wants to sell you. Mark Bradley will take the time to discuss your requirements and advise accordingly, I suspect LanTac will similarly offer you options. AR Rifle systems are like Meccano sets, you can basically build or spec what ever you want; lots of it totally unnecessary but we all like bling. Make every effort to try before you buy otherwise you'll end up swapping parts out that just adds to your expense. If you are in a hurry an off the self offering may be all that is available. For the best accuracy the two things that you really need to demand are a free float forend and a decent trigger. Don't expect a M4 carbine clone to perform well at anything outside of 300 yards but also remember that you don't need a heavy 1" diameter long bull barrel to cut the mustard at 600 yards, a 20" HBar or similar is plenty enough to keep them in the X-Ring or V-Bull.

Thanks for all of the advice. I am leaning more towards the Lantac as he now offers a good basic AR platform to work off of, I can then update the parts once I know what needs tuning / changing for my shooting style.
Cheers

Hi Mike,
are the spikes issues purely the full bore versions? I have 2 x ST22s which I don't have any issue with.
just wondering if there is anything I should be looking out for.

Just remember the most important parts for getting the most out of the AR Platform are a free float forend and decent trigger. LanTac offer both. It may be worth your while trying a selection of different triggers from GI issue, GI tuned, Single Stage and Two Stage to find the one that is likely to suit your shooting style/needs, LanTac has all of the types listed I believe.

I was under the impression from what i had read, that it was the st22s, but that saying this was only due to parts made by a certian manufacturer, that was not upto spikes standard...
Due to this spikes stopped producing, but this does not mean the whole production line was binned, yours obviously are are top st22s

I must say this is a bit of a slating of Spikes as it is regarding there .22 LR model (ST-22) and not the straight pull versions. Both myself and my father have ST-22's and newer one of the two came with a dodgy bolt (really bad finish and kept getting caught), but Wayne @ nwcustomparts swapped it out with no issues or complaining at all. I would say that Wayne doesn't suffer fools gladly.
Does anyone know if Lantac have actually 'fixed' any straight pull versions of the Spikes. I am sure that lantac's and cmmg's have been 'fixed' by other gunsmiths, and lets not forget which ever product you sell it's always better that the other companies offerings.
Saying that Lantac do have good reviews, but if you are going to slate a product do it like for like.

I've tried phoning LanTac and also sent them an online submission, nothing! It sounds as if it's an isolated incident but I was very unimpressed. It isn't hard to answer an online submission form!

Lantac and CMMG are new in the UK and would until recently be covered by warranty so direct comparison with the older Spikes isn't like for like. However it reflects on customer service.
Both Paul and Mark have the service to back up their products. Comments about other suppliers are not hard to find on t'internet. I'll leave it at that.

I agree with you mike at the end of the day a full bore ar 15 is basically an ar15 but its reciever is "Pimped" with different barrels fore end etc,
Again re the customer service just google it, dome people click others don't. I would always go back to a dupplier begore going anywhere else if under warranty and i am sure the the spikes issues came to light in that time.
As far as i am concerned spikes st22 is good kit and i have heard good things about bradleys, lantac ravens and cmmg of all calibres.
