It's not ironic, just common sense.

These guns are designed to use factory ammo and warrantied accordingly...home loads ar an unknown quantity (no pun intended).

Someone loads a way too hot round, causes a a failure and expects the maker to foot the billl. no way. why should he foot the bill if your magic wildcat round is a breech buster.???

Warranty voiding is one of the main reasons i've not been spurred to get into reloading, as every gun i've bought to date does have that warning in the manual, and for the most part i agree with Chuck.

However from seeing the pictures of the damage and description of events i simply do not believe that an overpowered chambered round was the cause of the failure.

I agree with Chuck too. However, only a twit blows up a perfecly good gun.

I know a bloke who calls himself a gunsmith, who blew up a revolver by downloading too much.

I called him a twit to his face and twit he is.

blackstuff, i hear you but let's say the breech / chamber was deffective in some way and blew out with a factory round..OK you have a case..but if it blows with a homeload how do you prove it wasn't the round at fault....At least with factory you will probably get the benefit of the doubt whereas a homeload puts you in a very different position..

like: What qualifications do you have to load ammo?? etc etc. .K.I.S.S. works every time

Never saw the need to home load personally, always shot RG Milsurp or that Patrone stuff in my Steyr Tactial, and Enfiled Alike. (the Oz one) as well as the AE and it shot well enough for my needs.....ask 25pdr, he was doing butts a few times when I was using the AE to remove the centre at 500..

Even managed a win at a 500/900 shoot using it....

Funny that, he didn't mention that home loading would void the warranty when I received a mail from him about the 30 M1 straight pull.

The round can be loaded to subsonic levels or upto 2400fps, with bullets ranging from 80 upto 190 grains. All 308 bullets have/can be used ,and lead bullets we have here. Henry Krank, Wilson and Wilson, Edgar bros stockists can all help including ourselves. One of my gunsmiths has some good loads around 1200 fps with lead.

Just to clear up any misconceptions, (Especially for our American readers), I was in a trench marking Chucks targets...Nice gun though.

Accepted, i think Jeff has been a little bit too honest for his own good there and he wouldn't be having the trouble he's having now if he'd said he'd only put factory ammo through it. BUT even if the breech was defective, shouldn't the damage be concentrated around the breech and/or barrel? Not to the rear of the reciever? For the failure to be caused by an overpowered chambered round with the damage where it was the round would've had to have been SO powerful it somehow buckled/folded the virtually solid 1" thick bolt ( ) which would then snap the rear pin retaining loop and smash open the top of the upper receiver.

An overpower round would have surely either blown up the breech/barrel and rammed the bolt into the buffer tube, possibly damaging that? To me if looked like the rear pin retaining loop had snapped before (for reason unknown)the trigger was pulled, allowing the two halves of the receivers to open very slightly. Just enough that the gun would still function, but enough so the bolt wouldn't have a clear path back into the buffer tube. But that just my two penneth worth.
