I do hope that you get satisfaction but I fear that it is going to be a long process.

Having followed this thread from the start, my sympathies and moral support (for what they are worth) lie firmly with you.

My confidence in the British (and European) courts; and the integrity and sense of fair play of some people are not so firmly entrenched.

The bad news is, as I expect you know, most manufacturers state that use of hand loads will invalidate the guarantee. There may be an avenue through insurance which it may pay you to investigate.

About the using reloads in the gun thing, as far as I remember most gun manufacturers adopt the same attitude. The use of reloads or any "unauthorized" modifications to the gun null and voids any warranty. I think the only company I know of that doesn't have this rule is Alexander Arms who in fact put up reloading data for the their rifles on their web site. If you have admitted to using reloads I think you might be on a hiding to nothing, I do hope I am wrong.

I just went and got a hold of a couple of the books manuals that came with rifles I have bought in the past, Sig Sauer, Remington, Savage, Bushmaster and the one for my Tikka's. They are all saying the same thing, basically the use of reloads null and voids the warranty. This what Sig Sauer says and they basically all say the same thing.

This limited warranty is null and void if the firearm has been misused, damaged (by accident or otherwise), fired with handloaded ammunition

then it goes on to cite a few other things. Good luck with it friend.

Shortsighted or what. By refusing to spend a few hundred pounds fixing the problem SGC have refused thus causing at least 2 people (so far) to now not bother with one. That's over £3k in lost business by me reckoning.

Might I suggest that once you have decided on a course of action and it has been concluded, you then gently prompt a nice Journo (Or even Gaz!! tongueout ) to write about your bad experience of the unicorn blowing up - this will be a warning to others out there to take extra care, this may end up saving someone's sight or even more, their lives.

I may be being thick here, but surely this should still be covered under the sale of goods act (which says that goods offered for sale must be of merchantable quality etc etc, and that things should last a reasonable amount of time before wearing out/breaking)? ie your 'statutory rights' as a consumer. That should mean that SGC voiding the warranty would be irrelevant, they would still be expected to make good on the deal. One for your legal bods I guess...

Well it would be interesting to know what the maximum load and tested proof pressure for a 9mm. I find the idea of a modern firearm exploding with a 9mm horrendous and not what I would expect.

I think if SGC had adopted a friendlier approach then yes give them the benefit of the doubt but if they want to play then so be it.

As for pressure, 9mm SAAMI spec is 35000psi and proof load is 45700psi which is what I have written in my reloading notes of the pistol days..... (9mm +p 36000psi, 9mm NATO 36500psi!!)

Sim, I think you're quite right. I'm guessing that by the amount of people dumping £600 deposits on Bobs table at The Phoenix, he doesn't care.

Exactly Mike. Bob has products that people want. There are some that have come along offering similar or better products, LR not included, but all the while, SGC will be remembered as they really were the first to all intents and purposes.

I won't even give him the time of day at Phoenix. But as you said, there will sometimes be three or four deep at his table. That was except the year they had Bradley Arms about 14 feet away from him!! Now that did make me laugh!

His stand this year was impressive, him plus a few bags of once fired brass....
