From a valuable discussion about potential EU firearms legislation it is rapidly degenerating into a GoM thread and getting near to being shifted.

All this hypothetical rambling about concealed carry, return of handguns and meeting a threat head on with an armed response is GoM material until such time as we have a tangible and coherent political argument/movement toward such issues.

Breacher Quote...

<Firearms are permitted in Ulster due to the terrorism threat there. They continue to be permitted despite the fact that "peace" has been negotiated.>

I think that the main reason they didn't ban handguns in NI was because Martin McGuiness, Gerry Adams and his mates insisted on being issued with a CC, even to this day I believe.

Here's at least one story that makes me say this.

Maybe i'm missing something about deacs but:

It seems to me the legislative wrangling over deac's is largely pointless given they are, by their very nature deactivated - regardless of which specs they were done under, especially when freely available obsolete calibre weaponry is (according to tabernacles of wisdom like Crimewatch) being pressed back into use into use by gangs/morons etc up and down the country with utmost ease and no engineering required.

I know which one concerns - read 'scares the Bejesus out of' me.

Am i wrong?

As an engineer - yes they do. Knowing the mentality of some peeps out there, weapons that are unrestricted only as they are an obsolete calibre does seem at odds with both common sense and previous legislation. For example they banned air cartridge weapons as twerps were converting them, where 'converting' meant simply jury rigging ammo, yet things like ob cal handguns have remained at large, while they repeatedly pick on deacs which seems pointless by comparison for actually having worthwhile effect.

Wouldn’t it be better and more productive to require ob cals to be deactivated rather than 'more deactivating' the already deactivated, the former is common sense the latter is just piddling on legit collectors who are gonna get stymied for no real good reason as far as i can see.

Are you an anti come here to troll.

Blaming the inadequate objects for the evil of humans is just stupid.

Following that logic we will ban lathes, screw drivers, black and decker drills etc etc as they can be used to "convert".

As soon as someone makes a weapon, that is a tool that is made with the express intent of causing someone harm by that person or for a person they know will use it as a weapon they have broken the law.

Flawed logic like you have just spouted is the stuff of the anti brigade and the last thing we need is shooters with the same debilitating thoughts.

How rude,

I am not an anti, i was pointing out that deac's are being unfairly targeted, while essentially unrestricted live weapons have been legal in the form of ob cals for years.

Dromia you might be an admin but to accuse someone of being an anti for no reason then citing a load of drivel is no better than those who are targeting deacs for no good reason, and DL short pointless and wrong.

Did either of you read and/or understand what i wrote? Sheesh... welcoming forum.

Obviously you failed to get your meaning over well enough, the fact that you seem to regard my points as drivel show that you have very little grasp of the firearms licensing issues facing gun owners.

The reasoning behind the deactivation proposals is flawed in the extreme but trying to move that focus onto firearms of other interest is divisive in the extreme and the "my gun is safer than your gun" attitude amongst shooters that lost us pistols, semi autos and everything else.
