Stops it getting scratched, no other real benefit on a rimfire. On a centre fire moderator it reduces the heat mirage from the moderator and also prevents you burning your hands if you touch it accidentally.

Happy with the STG 44 ?

It ticks all the boxes and is a favourite with everyone who picks it up.

The open sights are surprisingly accurate and GSG have listened to feedback on the GSG 5 and AK47 as access for cleaning the bolt is very friendly much like an AR15.

l fitted a UTG Stanag claw mount and fitted a 4x fixed mil dot scope but it is difficult to maintain a repetitive cheek weld as the butt stock is too low.

l have seen but not picked up a real Stg44 and based on what l saw the GSG is a very good copy.

For practical reasons l would like GSG to bring out a short 10 round mag.

I like the looks of the STG 44-22 and from what I've seen of the spec sheet it has a good amount of heft to it (kind of like the originals) the only thing I think it really lacks is a fun switch (but then again I think that about most M.S.R.'s)

Are many of these weight-compensated to match the originals? I'm only just starting out but it seems like they could be too light to give you a decent heft for aiming.

All of them are around the right weights empty.

When a loaded magazine is put in there is obviously a difference in round weights .22lr against .223.

The Lantac is probably the closest to the real weight.

The CZ in the Staffordshire Synthetic Stock weighs quite a bit, but is intended to be shot prone.

I have shot a S&W MP 15-22 and that does feel overtly light.

The STG is flipping heavy! but fun.

l wanted the ISSC Mk22 (SCAR lookalike)as soon as l saw it in one of the gun mags. I think l had the first one from a RFD (CPG Designs) and to be honest l think it has had a lot of unfair bad press. One of the reviews from magazine was using Eley ammo and it needs CCI Minimag or similar to get the best results. The US forums led the way with a simple fix to some of the light strike issues by refitting the bolt retaining bracket with blue Loctite and once l had done this any light strike issues effectively went away.

It is nicely balanced when held, it is fairly accurate especially off a bipod, and l clean the bolt assembly from time to time with Foglube (but not that often).

l have seen the other similar rifles like the SIG 522 and the MP 15-22 have problems but they have all been rated by the press.

Anschutz have adopted it for their semi-automatic target rifle and l have taken both apart at the dealers and they are virtuallly the same (match grade barrel and adjustable trigger the major differences).

l have debated to swap it out for the SiG 522 but every time l pick it up l change my mind and decide to keep it.
