Just had a call from my FEO, got my visit booked in for next Wednesday morning. Just need to fit my additional gun cabinet, and ammo safe before Wednesday!

Visit complete, nice and quick too. He was happy with everything I asked for, bar 1 slot (for a 2nd S1 shotgun). Ammo quantities were adjusted down a bit, but still sensible.

Should be about 6 weeks!

I am yet to 'meet' an FEO that was anything but spot on. I say meet because I did speak to one on the phone once who was not quite as amenable.

Correct thread this time....

I have to say I am very impressed with the number of new shooters who have recently joined the forum and are starting to receive their FAC's right now :goodjob:

Yeah, there are *lots* of new shooters at the moment. My smallbore club has had to restrict the times that probationers can come and shoot because we have so many it was getting ridiculous. They are also booking two targets at Bisley for future trips as the last visit was over subscribed apparently!

Having heard all sorts of stories about the FEO for the Met area covering Brunel Uni's club when I helped set it up a few years ago, I was more than a little apprehensive about meeting the man for the first time. And, as I expected, his attitude at first was very much "amateur students wanting to play with guns, wasting everyone's time, why am I here".

I was genuinely surprised when, some months later in a meeting with a senior student union functionary and his own boss, our FEO actually turned around and fought our corner when we asked for ammo storage on campus and the other two were, shall we say, less than convinced.

Just goes to show you can never tell.

(postscript: thanks to a senior university functionary, a retired Air Commodore, deciding he didn't like us, the club never did get storage on campus in my time. If anyone was going to veto us I thought it would have been the FEO - again, goes to show).
