It doesn't help that they got rid of 7 staff from the licensing team in May so have created their own backlog.

Avon & Somerset have been told to save £42 million by the government. Hardly their own making. What takes so long? Someone has to sit and read through everything that has been done to ensure it complies with legislation and policy, before they put their name to your grant.....

For as sure as eggs are eggs, should an applicant eventually "go postal", they will be asked questions. Before you put your name to that would you not wish to make sure that everything was as it should be?

Three months for a grant? I'm still waiting after four months for a variation and I've had a ticket for almost 30 years......

Thanks for the PM details everybody who has sent.

I would like to know about the FAC admin problems wherever. If you are an NRA member you are paying me to help as far as possible (not very - we don't have much real influence) and I will do what I can.

As much of who / what / where / and most importantly why, is really useful. Mike Eveleigh and staff at BASC are also very much into this.

Shameless plug: NRA membership includes insurance against legal costs for appeals aganist revocation / refusal to renew. I believe NRA is the only one of the major UK shooting organisations to include this as standard. Since I started full time for the NRA in April, we have initiated four court actions. So far we have won one, have two in progress and a rapid backtrack from the police on our notifying the fourth. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to get costs against the police when they lose.

I can never fault Northumbria Police, they are super hot on everything, usually 1-2 days after you post something to them they are on the blower.

I had a 10 month wait from early Sept 2011 untill end of june 2012. Within a month of the grant, i applied for a variation and that took less than 3 weeks
West Mercia had over 3000 waiting last year

What happens on renewals?

You have custody of the guns with no licence in your hand. Technically a crime, aided and abbeted by police who forced you to commmit it.

After a 10 month wait, I called the police to politely enquire when I might expect a licence and was told, it had just that morning been signed and was in the evening post.

Funny coincidence that. Out of 300 ish days, I happened to call on the very day it got signed.
