Ukrifleman that is one beautiful example of an Arisaka Type 99 retains the original dust cover (probably serial numbered to rifle, they were all hand fitted) and the original monopod, aircraft sights, and I'm seeing what looks like a full unground chrysanthemum on the receiver, that one still belongs to the Emperor. I'm betting it's got a matching bolt also. The condition is A+ beautiful example thanks for posting it. If anything like the states ammunition is scarce and pricey, there is no such thing a military surplus, we dumped all their ammo and production equipment in the ocean after the surrender. When I set up my late fathers reloading bench 7.7 Jap will be one of the first calibers I reload.
Is the safety knob on the back of the bolt a welded type?

Re: Type 99 Kokura series 21
Thank you for the kind words, you were correct when you said the mum was intact.
When I bought the rifle, it was missing the dust cover, cleaning rod and monopod.
I managed to source an original cover and fitted a top quality re-pro cleaning rod and monopod to complete the rifle;, these were supplied by Don Schlickman (Don's Parts) The rifle itself is in very good order, including the chrome lined bore and it shoots very well.
I also have a Type 38 Arisaka, it is of the 27th series made in 1933 at the Nagoya Arsenal.
It has a cancelled mum, denoting that it was no longer the property of the I.J.A.
It is also in good all original condition including the dust cover and shoots very well.

Re: Type 99 Kokura series 21
I was the range with a friend sighting in a Remington 700 BDL drew a deer tag this year and am hoping to see one and bring it home. Only had less than a box of 7.7 Jap on hand so I only put 5 rounds thru the Kokura series 21 Type 99 to see if it worked, the rifle shot good, fed, extracted and every round went boom. I forgot to adjust the sight down to 100 meters so it was set high and as a result all five shots were high on the seventy five yard range, or perhaps I'm a lousy shot I'd like to think it was the rifles fault.
