Thats why throat/lead/bore/groove slugs are so important, when you know what your rifle is like then you can buy the best boolit/bullet for it rather than just random experimenting in the hope that you will strike lucky.

You'll never get an answer if you don't know the question.

You never know the Lee boolit might fit your rifle, but beware Lee mould tolerances are generous, they state + .003" and I've found some of them to be up to - .003" as well. sign01

How ever much we may wish it precision doesn't come cheap.

All true. Slugging the barrel, throat etc is something for after we get back from Islay - meeting up with a mate from Australia and his wife for a couple of days - the island of peaty whisky, here we come! :shakeshout:

There is no such thing as bad whisky, just inappropriate taste buds.

A Highland Malt is nice, but those Islay Whiskies - like having a BBQ in your mouth!

Visiting Bowmore and Laphroaig (with tasting session clapclap )

Quite right - those that don't like Whisky, have no taste! ;)

Thats the problem with the distillery tours they only give you a measly tasting session whereas whisky should be imbibed at a drinking session.

Do you remember the Still Game episode when jack and Victor went on a distillery tour, now thats the way to do it. :goodjob:

Sandgroper, I use the Lee 205g which drops at .330 from my mould, it shoots quite well unsized in my M95. This rifle slugs at .332 groove / .316 bore.
If you want to try some of these boolits PM me your address and i'll drop some in the post.

I also had good results with the Lee C338-220-1R, this drops at .340 and i size it down to .332. The throat in my rifle is big enough for me to go up to about .336, but thats for future experiments.

PPU x 3 fired full length sized 8x56R cases
Lee 338-220-1R sized .332
17.6g Alliant 2400
Federal No. 210 LR primers
COL2.960"
Average velocity was around 1,440 fps

The usual proviso being.....

This load works safely in my rifle but you do need to do your own development work.

Joe ;)

Did an experiment this morning and slugged the barrel using the boolits Joe sent me.
