Went to Freshers fair at Uni - saw a gorgeous bloke and decided to join whatever it was he was promoting. It was shooting.
Got the guy but found the shooting was more interesting than him

Re: What Started You Shooting.
My Scout troop had an airgun night on Tuesdays, so I went along to that and discovered I was rather good at it. Then one of our leaders saw an advert for the National Scout Air Rifle Championships and we went along to that.
Which was nice, because (somehow) I got invited to join the Scout national squad. They shot .22, which was far more interesting than airguns because they made a nice loud bang.
Through them, I got introduced to Surrey Venture Scout Rifle Club (as was), and they were interesting because they shot with rifles that made a really loud bang. That and repeatedly hitting the middle of the little black dot at 9 football pitches' length was rather invigorating.
I've since discovered .50 cal shooting (which makes a REALLY loud bang!), but at £3 a pop it's a bit beyond what my wallet can sustain, sadly.

The usual toy guns and later air guns as a kid, then joined the Army Cadets and later the British Army. Had a couple of years in the UK before I came to America and have been shooting ever since.

Re: What Started You Shooting.
The ubiquitous Gat pistol, then a lovely Webley .22 under-lever through my teens, discovered alchohol & women then in my early 20s a friend at work asked me to come along to his club one night, out in the wooly wilds of Stanley before they built the 693 bypass and Lampton Lion Park had Lions!, was a bit of a journey from Sunderland and many a time only got as far as Chester Le Street to realise that Stanley would be too snowed in to get there!.
Then fell in love .................... with a S&W 29 .44 magnum  blued with a 6" (barrel), fooled around with a Beretta 92F 9mm and a terrible Armalite AR10 in 7.62 (convertible to full auto by taking a small bar out that was only held by a screw!) and then got my second love, a Parker Hale ex-Police heavy barreled .222
After that family commitments saw me gave it up (idiot!) until I started again with my youngest son in 2006.

There's room for all Gods creatures, next to the mash and gravy :)
