Re: importing barrel from USA
This should be no different to bringing a firearm in from Europe then? I assume Customs and Excise should write the part onto your FAC upon your arrival into the country so as long as you can get to the part when it arrives and have the necessary slot...
Re: importing barrel from USA
reply i got from HMRC today. what do you think ?
Dear Sir
Thank you for your e-mail concerning proposed importation of a barrel for a shotgun.
If you have a valid firearms certificate for the shotgun, you can import a replacement barrel under the terms of the certificate.
However, you will need to check first with the Department of Business,Innovation and Skills (B I S) to see if you need an import licence.
If one is required, it has to be obtained before the goods are imported. The National Advice Service can advise you whether one is required when you know the correct Tariff Classification.
B I S contact details are

E O R I REGISTRATION
You will need to apply for EORI Registration before you can import. EORI Registration Form No.C220 is available from the web site-www.hmrc.gov.uk and can be completed On Line.

Imports/Exports
Forms (L H S)
Information on EORI Registration is shown in Tariff Volume 3 Part 3 Para 3.1.9 .The Tariff is available for inspection in some Customs Offices, some Public Libraries and Chambers of Commerce.
There is also information available from the web site-www.hmrc.gov.uk
Put ECONOMIC OPERATOR REGISTRATION into SEARCH which will bring up a number of items. Item No 8 has a number of FQs.
The National Advice Service (0845 010 9000) can give you more information on EORI.
Their E Mail contact address is eori@hmrc.gsi.gov.uk
CLEARANCE OF GOODS
The main ways of obtaining Customs clearance are given below.
1. Using an International carrier who will deliver door to door and usually invoice you afterwards for the Duty and VAT plus a fee for their services. If you choose to use a carrier I suggest you ascertain their fees before any goods are imported.
2. Using a Shipping and Forwarding Agent. An agent should be used if goods are only shipped to the port. The Shipping Company will send you a Notification of Arrival. It is then your responsibility to appoint an agent. Agents are shown in Yellow Pages for most ports and airports under Shipping and Forwarding Agents.
Agents are also available from the Internet from Yell.com.Put in Shipping and Forwarding Agents and 100 agents will be shown. The list can be further refined by port if required.
3. Imports by parcel post. Parcelforce at the Coventry depot will advise you of its arrival. Public Notice 143 gives more information on postal imports.

I've bought sound moderators from abroad and legally imported them with no RFD involvement required
Re: importing barrel from USA
Did you personally collect them from abroad or bring them into the country using another method?saddler wrote:I've bought sound moderators from abroad and legally imported them with no RFD involvement required
Buying a rifle from Denmark was simplicity itself when we were over last year.
Re: importing barrel from USA
There's no need to rude Saddler. I'm not your enemy.
What about barrels? I know you can carry and declare via customs. Delivering is different though I have details from another forum which I'll post when I'm not on my phone.

Re: importing barrel from USA
I did a personal import for a Shilen barrel a couple of years ago - Although there were several hoops to jump through it eventually arrived on my doorstep in a cardboard tube - No RFD involved and my FAC with the required slot was all the authority required.

I can confirm that you require the appropriate valid UK domestic authority to possess the rifle and/or components in question which in the case of non-prohibited firearms is a Firearm Certificate. The Certificate must also allow you to acquire additional firearms and/or parts. You state in your e-mail that you are aware of the requirement to have you Certificate varied. You should not attempt to import the items until this has been granted.
As a concession, a freely declared non-commercial importation of privately owned firearms and/or components will be permitted by HM Revenue & Customs, without an import licence, upon production of the valid UK domestic authority as referred to above.
If the necessary documentation is not produced at the time of importation the firearms and/or components will be detained by HM Revenue & Customs pending its production.
I trust this clarifies matters.
