Fitted new scope to new rifle, got to range.................and bolt wouldn't clear the scope / mounts.

On SMG/AR course, hit the deck in best tactical style, rifle out front, pistol, spare mags, full vest with full mags etc etc .....all a tad heavy. Rolled on to my back as instructed.. Could I change position and sit up from there.............. NFW, felt like grounded whale. That was crash diet time.

Aye, after completing a stand at clays, broken gun over the shoulder, checked my score then off for a coffee. Half way back to the car to put the gun away, one of the lads shouted, (so every one in the vicinity heard) "you've left a shell in the gun" I thought he was taking the p***, but had a look anyway. Result - a red face for Phil*, . Even though the gun was broken and could not fire, what a clanger to drop. Only happened the once, but once too many to be frank. It goes to show, even after shooting for dozens of years, safety should be the first, second and third thing we think about on the range.

Not firearm related ... But as a kid I shot an arrow through a plate glass door... From the INSIDE of the house ... That took some explaining !
I also know someone who had a ND ... In his livingroom ... With a punt gun!! Oops !

When I worked on a farm I had a one bedroom bungalow (ex feed store) on the yard. As was my want I would walk out, shoot some pigeons, then sit and watch TV till I went out again.

Whilst watching TV, Pulled trigger with muzzle pointed at the ceiling and promptly put a .22 pellet through the roof. (BSA Stutzen). Funny but I actually had several thoughts in the time between pulling the trigger and the bang, as time slowed down.

Thankfully my ND resulted in no injuries and it has stuck with me.

I can certainly relate to those that say that someone who has had an ND is safer than someone who has not, as the feeling of disgust with your self never leaves you and you realise that you are able to get it wrong when you do not pay attention.

When I was younger I worked on an Estate near Dunkeld and was out shooting rabbits out on the hills with the Keeper and the Estate owner. We were having good success when some rabbits were flushed by the spaniels. One bunny stopped in open ground, the laird asked me if I could see it, I replied yes but knew the shot wasn't safe. He then screamed at me to take the shot and in my youth and stupidity, raised my AYA Yeoman for the rabbit to appear at the end of the rib along with the Laird! Gun was promptly lowered, I was ticked off big style and I have never done anything so stupid ever again.

My Father, who explained the basics of gun safety to me so many years ago also admitted to shooting a hole in the skirting board with a .410 B/A one day. He told me he had no idea how he managed to end up with a loaded .410 in the kitchen at the time but loaded it was and he pulled the trigger. A sobering thought.

Two members of one of my clubs has admitted to ND inside their house putting holes in their walls.
