Re: Changing a Rifle Barrel.
Dave, I've checked there mate, even emailed the guy but never got an answer. No joy there. I'll wait and see what Fultons say, also I have another option I have just thought of, Steve who runs .303 British.com is a retired Canadian Air Force armorer who has worked on Enfields. He may be able to help me here as well. Just fired him off an email.

Rearlugs on here knows Enfields inside out but only seems to pop in once in a while, you could try dropping him a PM?
Re: Changing a Rifle Barrel.
Hang on a minute! Jenks was a REME armourer...... He probably remembers when they introduced the Lee Enfield.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Blu,
I am currently living about 500x from Fulton's shop at Bisley so if you need a 'personal' touch, let me know.

This thread http://www.enfield-rifles.com/forum_pos ... rel-torque
suggests 250-300ft lbs.
Yet this one http://www.surplusrifleforum.com/viewtopic.php?p=765996 suggests it could be as little as 60ft lbs up to 120ft lbs.

Re: Changing a Rifle Barrel.
Stupid question.
Were not Enfields made in the days when a wrench extension and two heaves with grunts determined tightness?
Certainly early screwed barrels would have been fitted without one.
Is exact torque critical? :-P
OK Two questions.

Re: Changing a Rifle Barrel.
John25, well it looks like you were quite correct in your thoughts. I also sent an email to Steve Redgeway of 303British.com. Steve is an ex Canadian Air Force armourer and these days he is a senior civilian instructor with the Canadian Air Force, he wrote:

So it looks like I can crack on with it. Guys many thanks for all the replies and research done. I really really appreciate it.I don't recall there being any torque value. The receiver is threaded to the barrel because the barrel is in a vise. You just snugged it up using an action wrench. The barrel will not come away from the action.

Re: Changing a Rifle Barrel.
Going off subject slightly, one of my retirement projects is a Baker Rifle build from a kit.
My FEO asked me how could I possibly do it as I am not a 'qualified' gunsmith.
My reply "Nor were John Moses Browning, or Ezekiel Baker when they started" seemed to baffle him. I did get the variation for a .625 rifle 'though.
Let us know how you get on with the barrel change.
