Re: Save ANZAC Rifle Range, Sydney Australia.
I was asked this question in a private mail but cannot reply due to the forum setup, so I thought I'd answer publicly:
I would be grateful if you could explain, if you can, WHY the NSW authorities want to evict you. I appreciate that you may not be able to do this directly, sub judice and all that, BUT is there a link to an article you could post? I'm guessing the info may be on facebook, but many of us refuse, with good reason, to use that. Googling round the web tells me all sorts, Health and Safety, use as part of a nature reserve blah blah. It also tells me that the minister responsible for the range has decided that it is to close! Please tell us WHY!!
We have a situation where the land on which the range is located is Federal or Crown land, not owned by the State of New South Wales. As federal governments change between Labor and Liberal so the temperature seems to change accordingly, and become decidedly icy since the current left wing government got in. They want to hand it over to the State as a national park and are baulking at the terms of the contract and other written undertakings that a suitable replacement would be in place before notice of relocation can be issued. Basically the Labor federal govt would prefer that shooting does not take place and does not really want to assist in finding a replacement. The Liberal state government seems less antagonistic and seems to be looking for a solution as part of the Olympic shooting centre at Cecil Park in Western Sydney.
I should stress that these are my personal views and understanding and that any substantive information should come from the NSWRA. There is fair bit of the history on the NSWRA website: http://www.nswra.org.au
