If I am being asked to cover their actual costs then I would want an audited statement of what those costs are and I would want a very strict performance management regime. If they want to play by industry rules then I for one am looking forward to it...

I think if we are expected to pay those sorts of fees we are entitled to a proper service , such as soon as they receive an aplication form it is looked at and dealt with and the turn around time within two weeks as with any other business . I dont see how things are going to improve if each county is now making redundancies in the firearms depts , who is going to be dealing with them .
The trouble is theres no recourse to go elsewhere with our business , they dont want our business and the less of us the better in their eyes .
Who will make them accountable , because up until now most FAC holders are just grateful they have been granted an FAC and then keep your head down and dont make waves incase someone takes exception to you and revokes your license .
If they want to charge higher fees to recover the cost then it has to be done in a business like way with efficiency and a reasonable time , not what we see now anything upto 6 months waiting time .

If their past performance is anything to go by they will probably welcome it.
After all, they can see no wrong in wanting shooting tests, or indeed charging a small fortune for all their other courses (read something earlier this week about a BASC shooting awareness course……..£67 was it????)

No BASC won’t be too bothered about this increase; they will simply use it as an excuse to increase their own fees to come into line.

Now lets see…………..FAC £198

“Sporting rifle course” £125 (which would probably be needed prior to DSC course)
http://www.basc.org.uk/en/departments/s ... course.cfm

“Pre DSC1 course” £125 (plus loss of day’s pay and travelling costs)
http://www.basc.org.uk/en/departments/s ... course.cfm

“Actual BASC DSC1” course…………..£290 (plus loss of day’s pay and travelling costs)
http://www.basc.org.uk/en/departments/s ... evel-1.cfm

And finally a “Wild Game Meat Hygiene” course (which you will need if you want to sell your deer)…………..Anyone want to make a guess at that one??

mmmm………..the likes of ordinary people may as well forget taking up shooting. :cool2: :cool2:

There are some "improvements" offered by way of "compensation" for the fees increase, and they are:

•Online completion of applications directly into the police computer system
•Automatic calculation of fees, any the ability to pay "online"
•Automatic (IE computer) checking of intelligence etc data
•The ability to keep applicants up-to-date with the progress of their applications
•The ability for management to keep track of applications and re-route them to other FEOs in the case of leave or sickness etc
•The ability to automate renewal and undertake the process electronically rather than use the postal system
•The ability to task and route information from and to individual firerams officers
•The abilility to provide information to enquiry offiiccers in the field (through mobile information capability)

Now please don't blame me if you can't make sense of much of this. Neither can I, although I'd guess it means that "We want more computers/mobile 'phones."

What it DOESN'T do is address the problems of poor staff training, lack of staff, staff who know little or nothing of the sports they administer, bureaucratic delays, unenforceable and overly restrictive conditions on firearm certificates - well, the list goes on and on, and NONE of the root causes are addressed by these "improvements" in service.

What a cup half empty person you are.
My opinion of BASC is they do an EXCELLENT job and I cite their reaction to the Derek Bird incident.
My expectations of the NRA on the other hand are not high.

We might suggest that the ACPO Ltd guidelines be scrapped and the Home Office guidelines be the only reference document other than the Act(s) themselves.

My understanding is that it was agreed that the response to the Bird incident would be a single one presented through the BASC and that it was in fact a co-ordinated response that included the NRA's.

Just done the math per year for Ovenpaa and I.

£106 for renewal FAC x2
£106 for renewal SGC x2
Every 5 years.
£84.50 per year for the two of us.

On top of that comes £67.50 x2 per year for NRA and £35x2 per year for our local club which equal £289.50

Total per year for the two of us is £84.50 plus £289.50 divided by 12 gives £24.13p per month for the pair of us and that is before range fees and consumables and diesel.

£12 a month per person for our chosen hobby, just wondering what people pay in fees who play football or any other hobby?

I don't mind spending the money when I feel I'm getting something for it, I do object to having to pay for a legislated system that has been imposed on me for no good reason other than political expedient that delivers nothing other than politicians being seeing to be doing something, jobs for firearms licensing staff and opportunities for national organisiations to bind our wallets even closer to them for their own self serving existence.
