Having spent some thirty four odd weeks in Stickledown butts I can confirm that, at 9-1200x the marker hears crack/ thump - being sonic crack of bullet passing overhead at 900 and 1000 then thump, ( more a gentle bump) as bullet hits the sand, followed - some time later by the dull boom of the rifle.1066 wrote:Can you actually hear a rifle shot from 600 yds when you are in the butts? When you fire at long range you often hear, from the firing point, the echo of the sonic crack of the bullet as it reverberates back from the target face - I have never timed it, but that sound is always welcome when I fire my first sighter!
