My cousin actually did win an apprenticeship with Holland & Holland in the 70's. 12 years they reckoned before he would "qualify". Four years locks, four years stocks and four years barrels. He walked away from it after 6 months. Couldn't stand living away from home.
Made his money in computers and is now a customer!

I'd have done anything to gain an apprenticeship with H&H. I was seeking an apprenticeship during the 2nd half of the 80s. I've often thought of joining one of the US college gunsmithing courses but it'll never happen as i need to work.

I asked him why he had never trained anyone up and he replied nobody in his family was really interested and if you take a youngster on board they walk away after a couple of years and set up in direct competition with a fraction of the experience needed which brings a bad name on the trade.
His business card says rifle maker, and he can as well.
Would you be able to share your gunsmiths details?
I'm looking for a good localish gunsmith to repair my gsg.
