I jam. I use a MikMak guage, a bit like the stoney point only improved, using a dial guage.
I use a new case in the guage, and, as I full length size, loaded cases are the same size (within a no matter)
The measured OAL of the chamber, into the lands, is based entirely on the amount of 'feel' and length/strength of push.
As long as the measuring is consistent, double/double check, the rounds will be manufactured to the same length using competition type (by the thou adjustable) dies.
I can usually feel when the bullet actually touches the lands as there is no friction in the guage. It advances of course, as the throat wears. For this reason I will not make up a whole seasons ammo in one batch.
I think that, for every minute I spend on the firing point, I spend an hour at the reloading bench.
