A few thousand of Alins initial conversions were chambered for a .58 calibre copper rimfire round using the original barrel and sights.
However with the development of the 50-70 further conversions used relined barrels and later ones used manufactured barrels.
When they decided to look at the benefits of small bore rounds the 45-70 was developed. Britain converted the 577" Snider round to the 450/577 for its 450 cartridge.
