I think there may be a compliment in there, somewhere.......   ;)
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I got stopped during a police "random check" on the way to the rifle club not too long back... the guy asked the standard questions about the car, checked tax and asked if the car was mine and asked where i was going.

I replied with "to the gun club", and after asking if there were firearms in the car and being replied with yes, he told me I could go on my way... didn't even want to see my ID...

Fair enough!

what we need to remember is that there is an awful lot of misinformation about. The shooting media do not play by the rules... they write some absolute piffle about the police and some of the advise i have read has been awful. If you followed that advice you can find yourself in a whole lot of problems.

there is no big police anti shooter agenda.

... but we need to remember that criminals tell lies but they dont wear T shirts with "i am a liar". So when the police officer speaks to you they don't know if you are a criminal or an honest decent person.

When i crashed my car like a boss (got it on its roof :goodjob: ) i was on the way to a rifle range so when the police arrived i just asked if i could put my guns in his car while we waited for the ambulance/recovery truck. Slung them on the back seat then while waiting we had a nice little reminisce about shooting pistols :good:

The PNC was down at the time and the FLD was shut (Sunday am) and my certificate was in an ammo box which was locked in the boot of my car. The recovery truck came got my car back on its wheels, crowbarred open the boot and i showed him my ticket, job done.

What i was more shocked at was that after being given the all clear by the ambulance the police would have left me on a 60mph footpathless road in the middle of no where?! But because i had guns with me he drove me back into town and waited until i was picked up by my brother.

Never been stopped, but I remember once; I had just parked up outside my flat and slung my gear over my shoulder, I had two "rifle-shaped" carriers and a huge bag in one free hand.

My front door is down an alley and as I wondered down, four police officers passed me, they were already in the alley for some reason.

They all looked at me, then looked at the rifle carriers, then looked away... then they left without a word :?

Being a wildfowler and regularly driving out to marshes in the early hours, i've been stopped a few times. I've always declared that there were firearms in the car . The usual reaction is a grimace and occassionally a request to see my certs.

Only once was i asked to show them the guns and that was because he had a probationer in tow and he was unlikely to getr a similar training oppertunity. Usually they don't want to know because of the added grief and possible paperwork. It's just not something the usual plod is comfortable with.

What grief and possible paperwork? A quick certificate check and pocketbook entry, five minutes maximum. Perhaps "usual plod" is not concerned as you go about your lawful activity and does not wish to impeed you?

"Usual plod" will also "see" guns on a daily basis as more and more of their colleagues are routinely armed and will be observed on station or on the street. Likewise, an awful lot of "usual plod" will be ex-military. As opposed to not being comfortable with, they are more than likely not phased.

While in practise that's what they would do,any police officer can indeed take your firearms.
Absolutely they can..

I expect Sim g and DM and any other serving or ex police officers on here,,as I do, know many serving Police Officers who shoot in one form or another hobby wise when off duty,,,,why people think that every Police Officer is or could be anti gun baffles me...they have a job to do,, just let them do it,,,as long as you are legal whats the problem with being stopped??

I'd rather they stop me, if I'm out and about, at least they and I might have a standing chance if my guns or my car or both had just been nicked!

Chillax!!

PS here you go perfect example of what I mean,,,,see the thread in Grumpy old men.....entitled Terror raid on isolated farmhouse
