with the lid at the back
back left, then across the back row left to right, then like a typewriter, reset to the left on the next line...
Although I have now run out of MTM Boxes and am having to find new and more compact ways of storing rounds to fill my ammo safes to ticket capacity...!

You have missed out the most important consideration. Do you put the rounds in the box primer up or bullet up?

i find it's easier to get them out head up, than bullet up. as snayperskaya says though, a lot of my calibers I have no choice, so they all go the same way.
