Just to clarify (for those that didn't read from the start ;) ), my post relating to the GP side of renewal refers to this paragraph in the Police Scotland renewal letter

Well hopefully they'll stick to that.

I'm just renewing just now; they haven't requested a doctors letter. Had two cops today with their questionnaires.

There's a huge surge in renewals coming up this year; Highlands are going to be in difficulty getting through the workload.

They can't even get direct-field-of-expertise-and-work admin right.

My GP increased the dose of a med back in January, and I'm still only getting half the number of pills I should receive at each repeat, and I'm still having to ask for repeats twice as often....

I live down south and just started this process, I have now had the police letter saying I am due for renewal in August and to allow 16 weeks.I gave my doctors surgery the form 2 weeks ago, phoned this morning to check what's happening and they don't know where it went. Looks like I may end upusing the services of Medcert.

I think it’s slipped under the radar that last week the College of Policing and the National Police Comissioners Council, stated that the police cannot enforce social distancing or wearing of masks as it only in guidance not part of the covid19 law related to lockdown. So if that’s the case, they have completely destroyed their argument relating to doctors form/letters for shooters as it’s only in guidance not law.
They can’t even use the public safety argument either as if 33000 ish deaths in a couple of months is not a public safety issue I don’t know what is.

To my mind they have completely undermined their own argument for this new medical crap they have come up with.

I suggest that we contact our representative bodies, BASC, nra, NSRA etc pointing this out that they have stated they can’t enforce guidance.

I think you will find that the police are using this section of the firearms act .
Section 27
A firearm certificate shall be granted where the chief officer of police is satisfied—(c)that in all the circumstances the applicant can be permitted to have the firearm or ammunition in his possession without danger to the public safety or to the peace

There have been no appeals or talk of a Judical Review simply because it would be unwinnable .

It is a fight I would love to take, if I had money in the bank.

The various police forces are wrong when they ask for a medical however it will take a court case with a good solicitor to prove it.

Just before the recent Covid situation my Son (age 16) was about to apply for his FAC and SGC (a mirror of mine), all forms completed just need the medical certificate, however, our local GP surgery have refused to complete the medical form as required as part of any FAC application: assume that they will state the same at my renewal? This has left him/us in a bit of a no mans land at the moment.

I used Medcert when my doctors messed me about. Happy with the service tbh.
