But why should case length be an issue when it doesn't state you have to list a case length on your ticket just calibre?

Here we go again! :D

7792......best thing to do, to cover your ass and get it from the horses mouth, is give your particular Force licensing department a call and ask their position on it rather than have multiple opinions from a forum.

Thinking about it I believe that although the 7.5x55 Swiss uses .308 bullets I wouldn't expect to get one on a 7.62/.308 slot, neither would I chance my luck by getting a 300 WinMag or 308 Norma Magum on a 7.62/.308 slot, but maybe its just me........

Oh yeah, to be sure I’ll ultimately check it all out properly before I make a move to buy anything. Just wanted to get a conversation going really. Didn’t realise it was such a well-trodden topic...

Christ, here we go again.

The firearms act is (wrongly, bitch all you like, bluster on here till you feel better but it won't change) open to interpretation.

Licensing offices sadly determine what THEY want on the FACs and WE COMPLY. Or we don't get a grant (which like it or not is still a privilege and not a right).

Yes, they are supposed to grant by calibre and my lot prove the fudge factor by arguing the toss over 7.62x51 NATO v .308Win, then allowing me to collect on a calibre range.

Here's the single most useful bit of insider info you will read on this thread.

"CALL YOU FEO AND ASK THEM WHAT TO PUT ON YOUR APPLICATION".

Make sure you comply with all sections and if you cannot, write a small explanation at the end and annotate it.

Licensing offices are busy places. Funding is going down, not up. They own the train set, so when they come to an application problem they simply send it for 're-work and it goes to the back of the queue.

Many people complain like hell about licensing system, but the vast majority of problems occur as a result of taking duff third party advice ( from forums or that great authority, the club chairman). They get delayed but don't have the guts to admit it was self inflicted.

If you have a reasonable argument, be reasonable. Chances are you will win, but not if you spit your dummy, folk don't have time for that and will just put you back in the pile and deal with the polite applicants.

Folk need to understand that each grant is in effect a massive risk assessment. These take time, they don't have a lot of time, so hurdles are dodged.

Speak to your FEOs, they are there to help you and usually will.

Good luck

I recently put in a variation for a 7.62 rifle which was granted no problem, also asked to hold 600 rounds of 7.62 ammunition, also granted.

However they removed my 7.62/.308 ammo holding! So back it went for another variation to fix.

Have asked it to list x600 7.62 and x300 .308 in separate lots. Fingers crossed I don't get slots for 600 7.62 rifles lol
