Re: Hornady M beam scales problem.
The scales are working fine now I have got the correct pan on each scale. But as I said its made me doubt my powder charges so I'm dismantling two at each charge weight and re-weighing them. In the future, I will just use one scale and not mix the pans up. I tend to use the one you calibrated with my targetmaster trickler.

Re: Hornady M beam scales problem.
I am loading for a 6.5CM and using 139g Scenars, but using N160. According to the Vihtavuori load data, minimum is 33grs and the maximum is 42.1grs https://www.vihtavuori.com/reloading-da ... rtridge=95. Been to the range and using my MagnetoSpeed Chromograph (Sporter) I obtained the following:Alpha1 wrote:I all ways refer to the manufactures data when using a new powder or working with a new caliber. I have only just acquired my copy of quick load so I'm still checking it out.
For example, I'm using 139g Scenars with N150 using Vitavouri load data. I'm reading a lot to see what other people are up to on the other forums etc. There is a lot of info out there from Laurie for instance.
41.5 - 2616 / 2612 / 2616 = 2614 ft/s
41.0 - 2536 / 2596/ 2592 = 2574 ft/s
40.5 - ave 2554 ft/s
40.4 - ave 2543 ft/s
40.3 - ave2548 ft/s
40.2 - ave 2532 ft/s
40.1 - ave 2537 ft/s
The most accurate was 41.5grs

Thanks for the input I have a tub of N160. Are you using small or large primer brass.Geek wrote:I am loading for a 6.5CM and using 139g Scenars, but using N160. Re: Hornady M beam scales problem.
I am using Hornady brass with large primers.
However, I do have Lapua small primer brass, but I have not yet used those.
I was advised if using 139's use N160, however, if using 123s then N150.

Re: Hornady M beam scales problem.
The Viht data isn't quite right, it's the same load figures they published for the large primer case, they then changed the description to small primer case but made no adjustment to the actual data.
Read through Lauries excellent articles (and other sources) and you'll see the small primer cases tend to need more powder to achieve the quoted velocities.
In my case I'm using Starline SRP brass (normal size flash holes in those) and N150, I need at least 0.3gr to .8gr over the given load data to get similar speeds.
Currently running Nosler 140gr Custom Competitions over 36gr of N150, I have a few thousand of the Scenar 139s to try so will see what they do at that load next outing (2 weeks time).

Re: Hornady M beam scales problem.
Same place as usual, Germany and Luxembourg, got a shipment of 6,000 Lapua Scenar 139gr 6.5's and 155gr .30's along with a couple of thousand Hornady A-Max 155gr .30's
Stocks of my usual Nosler Custom Competition have gone up in price by around 20-30% and down in availability, the newer Nosler RDF's are like hens teeth to find!.
I have another shipment of the Lapua and Hornady due in the next week or so.

Re: Hornady M beam scales problem.
I would have thought that any pan can be used on any balance, as long as you tare (set to zero) the balance with the pan before you start weighing...?gashtyke wrote:Beam scale pans are normally weighted ( i.e. calibrated to the beam) . They are NOT for use on electronic scales.
Nor are they transferable between beams.
Re: Hornady M beam scales problem.
True - as long as they are fairly close to start with (with a beam scale). But you can't zero with one then swap to another half way through without a re-zero unless they are exactly the same weight.Daryll wrote:I would have thought that any pan can be used on any balance, as long as you tare (set to zero) the balance with the pan before you start weighing...?gashtyke wrote:Beam scale pans are normally weighted ( i.e. calibrated to the beam) .
