I know you're only doing it for fun but I've tried pointing and trimming meplats etc.

If you are a serious long range competitor in F Class then maybe point your bullets.

But first, sort 'em by weight and bearing surface length - if you're really anal!

As you have probably gathered I have a lot of spare time on my hands at the moment time I would normally spend on the range. I have invested in some of the shooting sheds shiny stuff to keep me out of mischief.
I am sorting my bullets into batches by weight and using the sheds shiny things to measure and batch by weight and bearing surface length. The shooting sheds kit is great by the way and the Service is second to none. I highly recommend them.https://www.shootingshed.co.uk
The bullet pointing/trimming is just something I find interesting something else to play with. I'm never going to be a top-class competitive shooter. But in my own little world, I like to tinker if it makes a difference to my shooting great but its more about me enjoying making and learning about new stuff.
And my machining skills have come on in leaps and bounds the lathe and mill are my friends I am no longer nervous about using them Im comfortable in my shed.

Well that's good but the starting point is top class components - i.e. brass and bullets.

I bought a whidden gun works meplat trimmer 6.5 bullet holder to go in my L.E.Wilson trimmer thinking it would be something special. It cost with postage £20 its a piece of aluminum bar stock with a hole bored in it.
I could make one in ten minutes what a rip off. It's not even good quality aluminum.

how would you go about cutting the taper in the sleeve? doesn't sound like a lot of room for a tool

It's not tapered I would use a miniature carbide boring bar then a machine reamer.

so if it's not tapered, what are you doing to the tip of the bullet? I thought pointing would require you to put the tip into a taper to get it uniform?
