Only a fool would go out of their way to keep alive some scrote that they had just shot, especially in light of the litigation culture. I wouldn't need to restrict the movements of anyone i'd shot - i wasn't trained to take half measures.
A mate emigrated to Texas and applied for permission for firearms and got a visit from the local sheriff. The sheriff asked what he'd do if someone broke in and he was forced to protect himself. Joe started waffling on about checking for life, calling an ambulance, etc. The sheriff stopped him short, winked and said only to call for help after he was sure the scrote was dead
Hell
YES, i'd carry. My personal choices would be:
Sig P229 in 40SW with 2 extra magazines & concealed carry holster.
A slim sheath type blade such as a tanto - simple bladed without any serrated nonesence.
I already have med kits in the cars, complete with tampons, clingfilm, clotting agents, etc.

It would be nice to be able to keep one at home, and have the option to carry if you wanted to...but I can't think of an occation for years where I'd of prefered to be armed.
The problem I have with legal carry in the UK, is that while I trust myself (as you will trust yourselves) - I don't trust the majority of the general public to carry on an everyday basis.
That right there is the basis for why i would carry even now if i thought i could get a handgun into the country and get away with it.
As it stands, ONLY the criminals and elite few police force members have the ability to carry, I'd rather like to see the odds evenedn and let everyoe carry, and those that know how to use them will feel safer - those that don't know how to use them should get trained, and those that just don't care, well, theres a chance theny'll never need one, but I'd rather have one and not need it, than not have one and need it...
I'd go flashy, nickel plated sissy pistol for me, 1911 nickel with ivory grips, twice - cross draw, if my strong arm goes down I don't have to think too long/dive to the floor to recover my firearm, just get the second out and keep shooting!

This doesn't help convince me.....
Let me ask you please - How many times in your life so far, has someone pulled a weapon (of any kind) on you ?

I'd say maybe 2-3 times throughout my entire life.
but as it stands these days I'm a hermit, I don't go out because when I do, I don't like what I see out there, I don't like what this country has become.
I know for damn sure it would have saved my friend having to write his car off to get away from a car full of big burly black dudes that were trying to car jack us one night - we did'nt know what they were carrying, but If I had been carrying a concealed weapon, at the point where they pulled infront of us and made us stopped and all jumped out and made a B-line to our car, had I been carrying pistols, then either flashing them would have stopped them, or if it didnt then shooting them with it certainly would!
It's not too bad out here in the outskirts of the Birmingham, certainly not that I'd carry constantly -although they'd always be handy when at home - but when venturing into the city, these days I'm never really comfortable - with a pistol I'd certainly be more at ease walking around.
Maybe its just me, and the media has scewed my perception of what birmingham has become, but when theres alot of by-standers getting shot for no reason other than being in another gangs turf, I'd rather have the option to shoot back than just have words at hand.
Ofcourse - much like I have for my rifles, I'd have the utmost respect for firearms, and they would only ever come out if it was a case of its shoot to kill or be killed - but I'm sure knowing that general people could be carrying weapons on the streets would be a big deterant to criminals.

OK, so imagine the senario - you're on the street late at night, and 2 guys approach you - If they say nothing, at what point are you going to draw on them? If you wait until they are on top of you, what do you do then when they ask for your wallet...Are you going to draw at close range on 2 unarmed men?....that's a situation that could go badly for all concerned...and possibly for a bystander too....
